Can I just say, it is bloody freaking cold out! I don’t mean to complain or anything, but.. Holy $%@^! does it ever make me grumpy. And cold. I want to go back to South America.
The worst is when I read fashion sites and articles with headlines like, “How to Look Good This Spring”, or “Spring Fashion On the Horizon!! xoxo”, or my favourite “Wear this cute [but totally inappropriate for winter clothing item] 189433 ways!”. Ugh, kill me now and please let me be reincarnated into someone born in SoCal. Or maybe their pet. Or a cactus. I think a cactus in the desert has it better than me here in this weather. That, and a little flower growing on it’s head.
Though I wish I could, it’s not possible for me to stay at home all day everyday. A girl’s gotta eat, pay bills, and sometimes see her friends before they start wondering if she’s turned into a hermit. For that she needs $$$$. And for that she needs to leave the house to go to work. So what’s a poor, cold girl to do?
#1: Hibernate!
Er… well, maybe not. But if it was possible to take a four month nap and wake up in the glorious spring I’d be all for it.
#2: Plan a trip somewhere warm
I think this is the next best thing to hibernation, and, well, more plausible. It’s also the most expensive. If you have some spare cash lying around, you’re golden.. which will hopefully be the state of your tan a few days after you’ve arrived at your destination. Otherwise, proceed to Tip #3.
#3: Invest in a space heater
I bought one last year that lets you set the temperature you want and it will automatically shut off once it reaches it. It can also double as a fan when it gets too hot which, naturally, never happens to me. But it’s nice to know that feature is there if I wanted it! If your space heater lets you set temperatures upwards of 30C it’s basically like #2 but without the expense or the crying babies on the plane. And you know there’s always one.
#4: Invest in some hand/foot/extremity warmers
One year as a joke, a friend bought me a box of hand warmers for Christmas. Well I loved those little things and since then I’ve bought probably one box every year. I keep some in my desk at work and in my bag when I’m out and about. They’re especially handy when you go ice skating outdoors. The only thing I don’t like about them is that they’re not exactly environmentally friendly. Once the heat is gone from the little packet you’re supposed to throw it out. (Sorry, planet).
#5: Hot chocolate
With or without marshmallows, but I’m pretty sure the marshmallows are what help you retain heat after you drink it……..
Just kidding. But really, marshmallows.
In conclusion, stay inside by the fireplace/under a blanket until winter is over. Stay toasty my friends.
