NYC Weekend Recap

I didn’t mean to be gone from here for so long — I might have had a little too much fun this past weekend! So much fun in fact, that as soon as I got home from work yesterday I fell asleep while I was editing the photos for this post. Oops.

Needless to say, I had a fab time with my little sis. We may not have gone to Coney Island (it was cloudy and we wanted to do the whole beach thing), but the weather was still good for checking out the Met, shopping and lots of eating and drinking. Instead of boring you with all the details of every little thing we did, I’ll just show you some photos that capture some of the highlights.

Happy Tuesday!

26_preflightStudyingDoing a little work/studying while I wait for the boarding call. Thanks, Porter, for being so awesome and having comfy chairs in your lounge. And free wifi.

26_ayzaReso

26_ayzaChocolatesOn Friday night we went to Ayza, a wine and chocolate bar in the West Village. Small menu but they had a decent wine selection and recommended different kinds of truffles to go with what you were drinking (PS. how cute is that lovebug chocolate? It was key lime flavoured). They also have a selection of cheeses and other little apps for sharing.

There were a lot of chocolatey things on the menu for dessert of course, including chocolate wine (yum), and a Manhattan made with chocolate-infused bourbon. It was so good it bears repeating: chocolate-infused bourbon, people. So. Good.

26_telegrapheCafeWe stopped here for breakfast bagels and lattes before our trip to the Met on Saturday.

26_charlesJamesIf you’re like me and you love fashion, art and/or tech I highly recommend checking out the Charles James exhibit while it’s still around.

There were a number of displays where a camera would pan over a dress and on a screen you could see a 3D model of how he would have put the fabric together, or an x-ray showing where the stitches and seams were superimposed on an image of the fabric. I wasn’t able to tell if it was all pre-recorded animations but it was really cool nonetheless.

26_freePeopleMidtown 26_freePeopleMidtownDecoI love Free People and am sad that the only way I can get these clothes in Canada is to order them online. Or beg my sister to buy them for me. But I don’t like waiting for things to be delivered (who does?). So I bought a couple a few a lot of things. Some of them were gifts so I don’t feel too bad…. Okay, it was only one gift, but still. It’s the thought that counts, right?

26_shakeShackDeco

26_shakeShackNo picture can fully capture the supreme tastiness that is Shake Shack (especially not my wimpy iPhone pics) so if you haven’t had the pleasure of trying it already it is my sincerest hope that you will someday. Try everything. No regrets (as you can see, we didn’t hold back here either). You probably won’t have dinner/eat until tomorrow and you’re doing a ton of walking in this city anyway. Might burn off a couple fries worth of cals.

Another tip: the Madison Square Park location is much nicer than the one in Midtown — where these pics were taken — but the lines aren’t as obscenely long).

26_shoppingBagsAfter we ate everything at SS we assessed the damage (to our wallets). When you don’t see what’s inside the bags it looks like a lot less. This is what I’m telling myself. That, and I could have spent more, I suppose.

26_georgetowncupcakesGeorgetown Cupcakes (shown here in red velvet and key lime cheesecake) for Sunday brunch instead of real food. Because, cupcakes!

26_lambTots

26_popsiclePunch

Crunchy lamb tater tots and popsicle punch we shared at the Gallow Green rooftop bar after we experienced Sleep No More. I say “experienced” because… well, it really was just that. It’s not a play, no matter what anyone tells you.

I would have taken pictures, but we weren’t allowed to bring purses inside and my outfit didn’t have any pockets so I had to leave it behind at the coat check (first world problems amirite?). I don’t want to spoil it for anyone that’s thinking of going so I’m not going to say any more. What I can say is you should prepare for your mind to be blown by some really, really, really, crazy/weird/cool/freaky stuff. And maybe brush up on your Macbeth or you might get totally lost 😉
